Department of Philosophy and Religious Sciences Postgraduate Programs

Purpose of the Programs: The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies is a field of science that provides education at the postgraduate level, which qualifies as a follow-up of the Theology and Islamic Sciences education. It aims to train students capable of conducting research and analysis at the national and international level in Religious Philosophy, Religious Psychology, Religious Education, Islamic Philosophy, Logic, and Philosophical History.

Importance of the Programs: Courses in the philosophy group contribute directly or indirectly to the purpose of the faculties of Theology which is training theologians who can make use of the cultural heritage, interpret the life being experienced and produce solutions to problems. Philosophy and Religious Studies have a vital role in representing theology faculties within the objective and universal university structure by gaining a scientific structure. The postgraduate programs of Philosophy and Religious Sciences are intended to ensure the realization of both historical-contemporary and theoretical-practical scientific studies, thus making contributions in terms of augmenting the scientific studies in our University in particular and our country in general. Conducting different studies in philosophy and religious sciences based on different methods and perspectives will both serve to a healthy understanding of the phenomenon of religion and enhance academic abundance. In this context, the theoretical and practical studies carried out in Religious Philosophy, Religious Psychology, Religious Education, Religious History, and Logic will make contributions to the Turkish culture, the Islamic culture, and the universal culture, as well as to the academic knowledge in both domestic and international scale. Thus, the groundwork will be laid for solving the issues which come into prominence as the problems occurring within the bilateral relations between religion and individual, society, culture, education, politics, economy, arts.

Application Requirements

Master's Degree
To be eligible to apply to the announced Philosophy and Religious Sciences Department Master's Program, the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree in compliance with the designated conditions, a score of 55 points in the verbal score segment of ALES, or an equivalent score whose equivalence to ALES is acknowledged by YOK, an undergraduate grade average on condition that it is not less than the base points designated by the Senate, and a score of 40 from YDS or an equivalent score from other exams whose equivalence has been acknowledged by OSYM. In addition, depending on the Department's decision, an oral exam or a written exam, or both will be applied.

Ph.D.
To be eligible to apply to the doctorate program, the candidates must hold a bachelor's degree or a master's degree with a thesis, and in the type of score of the applied program, an ALES score of 55, a score of 80 in case they apply with an undergraduate degree, a standard ALES score designated by the Senate on condition that it is not lower than the standard score or an equivalent standard score from an exam whose equivalency has been acknowledged by YOK. Applicants to a PhD program who apply with an undergraduate degree must have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.00 out of 4.00 or equivalent. In the admission of students to the PhD program, it is mandatory to obtain at least 55 points from the central foreign language exams in languages other than the candidate's native language, which are acknowledged by YOK, or from the international foreign language exams whose equivalency has been recognized by OSYM, or an equivalent score from the international foreign language exams whose equivalency has been acknowledged. If needed, the Senate may decide towards increasing these minimum scores based on the characteristics of the attended program. In addition, depending on the Department's decision, an oral exam or a written exam, or both will be applied.
