Ph.D. Program

Purpose of the Program: The aim of the doctoral program is to provide Turkish Language and Literature students with the ability to conduct independent research in their fields, to interpret scientific events with a deep perspective, and to determine the necessary steps to reach new syntheses. It is to give the ability to make articles and scientific studies in the field. To give graduates who will be successful in the fields of Turkish literature and various periods of the Turkish language, not only in Turkey but throughout the world, with the education to be given in the doctorate. The doctoral program basically aims to develop interdisciplinary studies and to improve communication with Turcology departments and employees at the country or international level, and increase the quality of studies in connection with it. In addition, starting from the discussions on the kinship of the Altaic Languages, to inform the students about the phonetic structure and features of the Turkish languages. To gain the ability to examine, research and interpret the topics discussed in the Turkish Language.

Importance of the Program: The importance of the doctoral program is to provide the student with the ability to conduct independent research, to analyze scientific events with a broad and deep perspective, to interpret and to determine the necessary steps to reach new syntheses. The thesis to be prepared at the end of the doctoral study;

  • Bringing innovation to science,
  • Developing a new scientific method,
  • Applying a known method to a new field must fulfill one of its attributes.

Application Requirements: 1) The minimum conditions for application to graduate programs (ALES, diploma grade, foreign language score, interview, etc.) and the types of documents required for these conditions are determined by the EABD/EASD board and submitted to the Senate as an ADDITIONAL decision. (2) Candidates must have graduated from the undergraduate program approved by the relevant EABD/EASD and accepted by the EK in order to apply to the graduate programs. (3) In order for candidates to apply to doctorate or proficiency in arts programs, they must have graduated from a master's program with a thesis approved by the relevant EABD/EASD and accepted by the EK. However, students who registered or graduated from non-thesis master's programs before 06/02/2013 can apply to doctoral programs. (4) Candidates must have graduated from an undergraduate program approved by the relevant EABD/EASD and accepted by the EK in order to apply for an integrated doctorate or proficiency in the art program. (5) The branch of science/program that graduate students have chosen and placed in their applications cannot be changed later. However, within the scope of the YÖK 100/2000 Doctoral Scholarship Program, if there is a student from a related institute in a science branch/program outside the quota area of a department that has been allocated a quota, and student applications from all disciplines/programs of the said department will be accepted, the relevant science branch/program within the quota area. The science branch/program of those who are entitled to be students from other disciplines is changed to the related science branch/program with the decision of the related institute board of directors. With the recommendation of the Department and the decision of the Graduate School Administrative Board, the advisors of the students in this situation are changed to be faculty members from the scholarship field and additional courses can be given to the student. (6) In order to apply to graduate programs, the candidate must have the relevant diploma or graduation certificate. (7) A candidate is enrolled in a postgraduate program at the same institute, excluding non-thesis postgraduate programs; If the institute board deems it appropriate, it can apply to a maximum of two programs. (8) ALES score is not required for the admission of students to the departments of fine arts, art, and design faculties and the conservatory institutes. In the applications made to these departments/majors, the same weight as the ALES score is to be used during the ranking, and the entrance exam, the conditions of which are determined by the EK and the Senate, is held in each announcement period. (9) Science/art exam in graduate programs where exams are applied for student admission; written exam and/or interview. Candidates who do not attend the written and/or interview exams are deemed unsuccessful and will not be evaluated. (10) Written and interview examination juries are determined by the EYK as "three" principal and "two" substitute members among the "five" faculty members proposed by the EABD/EASD presidency for each announced program. The science exam and interview exam are organized by the relevant EABD/EASD presidency. (11) In case the written exam and interview are held together, their weights are decided by the EK with the EABD/EASD offer.

(12) If the student's graduation grade (the grading system used by the university during his education) is in the "4" system, the grade determined by YÖK is calculated according to the conversion table and converted to the 100 system, if the diploma grade is given only in the 100 system, it is used exactly. (13) Applications are evaluated and decided by the relevant institute board of directors. If necessary, opinion can be obtained from the EABD/EASD presidency. Results are announced on the institute website. (14) Faculty members at our university are accepted out of quota for doctoral programs with the approval of the EYK and meeting the minimum application conditions in the ESOGU Postgraduate Education Regulations, approved by the department of the applied doctorate program.

Graduation Requirements: The one-semester ECTS credit value of the Ph.D./ Proficiency in Art Thesis is “25”. One semester's ECTS credit value of the specialization course is "5". For graduation, a total of at least 120 ECTS must be obtained from the Doctorate / Proficiency in Art Thesis Course and Specialization Course.

Opportunities after Graduation: Graduates can give lectures at universities as guest lecturers. They can teach in private schools or affiliated with the Ministry of National Education; They can become experts in the Ministry of Culture, Turkish Language Institution, archives, and take part in various units of TRT.

Modern Turkish Literature Master's Program

Purpose of the Program: To train experts who have received basic education in the field of New Turkish Literature and to prepare them for the doctorate, to train scientists who have the ability to evaluate the literary products written in the period from the Tanzimat Period to the present.

Importance of the Program: Modern Turkish Literature consists of three professors and an associate professor who are competent in their fields. The fact that the university is close to Ankara and Istanbul allows researchers to easily benefit from the library facilities.

Application Requirements: Graduated from Faculties of Arts and Sciences, Faculties of Literature, Faculties of Language, History, and Geography, Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculties of Humanities and Humanities, Departments of Turkish Language and Literature, Departments of Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures, Departments of Linguistics, Departments of Turkish Folklore and Folklore. To have a minimum of 60 points in ALES (Verbal) and at least 60 points from a written science exam.

Courses in the Program: Style in New Turkish Literature I-II, Literature and Psychoanalysis, Themes in Modern Turkish Poetry, Literary and Structure in Literary Works, Seminar, Research Methods in Social Sciences and Publication Ethics, Literature-Philosophy Relations, Literary Criticism Theories I-II, Literary Formations, and Sample Text Reviews.

Skills Gained and Academic Background: Graduates who successfully complete the program are awarded the title of "Master of Business Arts (MBA)". The person is a graduate who is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that can serve in every field of Modern Turkish Literature, strives to catch up with international scientific standards, and can be the interpreter of a literary work.

Graduation Requirements: To take at least 8 courses + 1 seminar course, 120 ECTS, to have at least 3.00 average, to have made at least 1 publication.

Post-Graduation Work Opportunities: A student who has earned the new Turkish literature science specialist degree can work as a Turkish language instructor at universities and continue his studies in the academic field. The graduate gains privileges both in the private sector and in public institutions.

Turkish Language Master's Program with Thesis

Purpose of the Program: To train scientific experts who know how to do research in the fields of Old Turkic Language and Modern Turkic Language and who can put forward studies that will meet the deficiencies of this field in academia.

Importance of The Program: Postgraduate education on Turcology will guide people who will work in this field and contribute academically. Master's education with thesis is given by the leading and well-equipped faculty members of that field in our department. With this education, students will be trained as competent scientific experts in the field of Turcology, and they will be able to master the literature and problems of the field.

Application Requirements: Having graduated from the Departments of Turkish Language and Literature, Departments of Contemporary Turkic Dialects and Literatures, Departments of Linguistics, Departments of Turkish Folklore and Departments of Folklore in the Faculties of Arts and Sciences, the Faculties of Letters, the Faculties of Humanities and also having been received at least 60 points from the written Science exam.

Courses in the Content of the Program: Studies on Kök Turkish, Studies on Old Uyghur, Turkic-Mongolic Language Relations I-II, Old North-West Turkic I-II, Oghuz Dialects I-II, Morphology, Lexicology, Turkish Language Seminar, Research in Social Sciences Methods and Publication Ethics.

Acquired Skills and Academic Experience: With this Master program, students will be able to interpret the fields of Turcology and Linguistics in the world and in our country, to follow the new research methods and theories of the field, to engage in scientific activities in these disciplines, to interpret the scientific literature in the fields of Turcology and Linguistics and to make suggestions about the results.

Graduation Requirements: The student must have passed all the courses in the program and must not have an FF, DZ, or YZ grade. In this program, the student must provide a minimum of 120 ECTS credits and a GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00. In addition, students must successfully complete his/her thesis defense and publish an article related to his/her thesis.

Opportunities to Work after Graduation: They can progress as an academician in the Turkish Language and Literature departments of universities, or they can also work as lecturers in Turkish Teaching Centers (TÖMER). They can become teachers in educational institutions at the high school and secondary school levels.

Turkish Language and Literature (Turkish Folklore Master's Program)

The Purpose of The Program: The purpose of the program is to respond to the need by educating well-equipped human resources who can interpret the field of Turkish Folklore with a scientific, holistic and systematic perspective, to ensure that the theories and methods of Folklore are introduced in detail and by comparison, and to enable the concept of Turkish Folklore, representatives of the tradition and their creations to be comprehended.

The Importance of The Program: Due to the relationship of folklore with museology, media, tourism, and animation, it will guide those who will work in these fields and applied folklore studies, and will also contribute academically.

Application Requirements: The first criterion is to graduate from one of the universities' undergraduate departments of Turkish Language and Literature and Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures. Other conditions are announced by the Institute of Social Sciences during the application process, which is held twice a year.

Post-Graduation Work Opportunities: An alumni, can work in educational institutions, provided that he/she fulfills the conditions that will replace the formation to be determined by the Ministry of National Education as a Turkish Language and Literature teacher. As a folklore researcher in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, graduates can conduct research and compilation on the subject. Academicians, editors, private lesson teachers, and culture-art event managers, etc. can work in various fields.

Classic Turkish Literature Master’s Program

Purpose of The Program: Having theoretical and applied knowledge in the field of Classical Turkish Literature; to gain the ability to read manuscripts in Ottoman Turkish written in verse and prose; attaining competence in understanding, annotating, and evaluating these texts; to train researchers who have a critical point of view and are well-equipped.

Importance of The Program: The Classical Turkish Literature Master’s Program is not a program of appointment to a profession, it is a field for those who want to deepen in the field or who are considering an academic career. Graduates of Master’s Programs receive the title of “Science Specialist”. Master’s programs, which are the first step towards becoming an academician, are also a preparatory phase for the Ph.D. The courses in the Classical Turkish Literature Master’s Program opened at Eskişehir Osmangazi University are given by well-equipped and competent academicians.

Application Requirements: Having graduated from Turkish Language and Literature Departments, Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures Departments, Linguistics Departments, Turkish Folklore and Folklore Departments and getting at least 60 points in the written Science exam is the first criterion. Other conditions (ALES, Foreign Language, etc.) are announced by Eskişehir Osmangazi University Social Sciences Institute during the application process, which is carried out twice a year.

Graduation Requirements: Students are required to take at least 8 courses, 1 Seminar, Master’s Thesis, and Specialization Course (120 ECTS in total) throughout the entire semester. The passing grade is CC. Students can graduate if they have a minimum average of 3.00/4.00. For students enrolled in the program in the 2019-2020 Fall Semester and after, there is a requirement to publish an article about the thesis.

Post-Graduation Work Opportunities: Post-graduation students, if they have sufficient foreign language and ALES scores, can start the Doctorate Program and apply to the Research Assistant postings if they meet the conditions of the postings.
